Player Information

The Tournament: The Porter Cup is an invitational amateur event conducted at stroke play over 72 holes. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to invite players of national and international reputation to participate. Contestants are selected on the basis of their competitive record and accomplishments in major amateur and collegiate tournaments.

Amateur Status: All players must conform with the USGA Rules of Amateur Status as set forth in The Rules of Golf.

Registration: TBD.

Dress Code: Shorts are permissible for practice, the Ham Am and all rounds of Tournament play. Proper collared shirts are required during all phases of the Tournament including the Ham Am and all practice. The Niagara Falls Country Club has a policy of no denim at any time.

Footwear: It is a condition of the competition that shoes with metal or traditionally designed spikes are prohibited. Penalty for breach of the condition is disqualification.

Grooves: The player’s clubs must conform to the groove and punch mark specifications in the Rules of Golf that are effective from January 1, 2010.

Distance Measuring Devices: It is a condition of the competition that rangefinders or other distance measuring devices are permitted.

Practice: Niagara Falls Country Club will be available for practice both Sunday and Monday afternoon. You must register with the Pro Shop before beginning play. The course is closed all day Tuesday for the Ham Am. Range balls are included in the entry fee.

Starting Times: Morning or afternoon shotgun for the Ham Am will be available at Registration. Wednesday and Thursday’s pairing and starting times will be available by noon on Tuesday. Friday and Saturday’s times will be available by 7:00pm the night before.

Adverse Playing Condition Policy: In the event of adverse weather, the field may be cut to a number determined by the Tournament Directors based upon conditions. Every attempt will be made to preserve the “Top 20” exemption.

Caddie Policy: Caddies are not mandatory. Please indicate on your entry form or at Registration if you would like the committee to supply a caddie for you. Caddie fee is $40 a day plus gratuity.

Ham Am: The Ham Am is our player/sponsor event which will be played on Tuesday. You are highly encouraged to participate. There are morning and afternoon shotgun starts. The usual format is two Porter Cup players playing Best Ball, and either three or four Tournament Sponsors playing a Scramble. The combined total low score wins.

Player’s Dinner: The Player’s Dinner will be held on Tuesday evening. Cocktails are at 7:00pm and dinner is at 8:00pm. Player attendance is encouraged and a jacket is preferred.

Private Housing: All collegiate players requesting private housing will be accommodated. You must specify on your entry form if you want us to provide private housing. You will be notified shortly before the competition of your hosts’ name, address, and phone number. For more information, contact Cassie Stein.

Travel Information: The Committee will need to know if you will have a car available during tournament week. The Committee will provide transportation to and from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport. You must provide us with your airline, flight number, time and day of arrival and departure. Awards: Prizes will be awarded for the top 10 positions in the Porter Cup. The William J. McMahon Award is for the low Mid-Amateur. In addition, there are low round prizes each day.

Meals: The following meals are included with your entry fee: Breakfast and lunch each day Tuesday through Saturday; Tuesday evening Player’s Dinner and the BBQ on Wednesday.

Rules of Play: The USGA Rules of Golf, as modified by local rules established by the Porter Cup, will be used. The Tournament Directors reserve the right to alter any of the conditions and schedules herein.

Close of Competition: The competition is deemed to be closed when the Championship trophy has been presented.

Withdrawal: If an entrant withdraws prior to July 6th, their full entry fee will be refunded. If an entrant withdraws after July 6th, there will be no refund.
